The Viennese waltz is the mother of all ballroom dances. Twirl and glide across the dance floor to classical music or modern hymns. The elegance, grace and speed of the Viennese waltz are admired the world over. A true classic and a favourite among advanced dancers.
The oldest form of ballroom dance, it is characterised by fast, graceful turns that move quickly around the dance floor, and its tempo is much faster than that of the slow waltz.
At the heart of many films, danced to specific music with a ternary rhythm, the Viennese Waltz is synonymous with splendour. Traditionally the dance of the opening of balls and weddings, the Viennese Waltz is chic incarnate.

Technique
It is important that partners have good posture and move together as a unit.
The head, shoulders and ribcage should be in an upright and aligned position, with a sense of lift and an elongated and stretched torso. Most beginners will approach it as a slow waltz, but the amount of rotation and the speed of the music will quickly show them that this approach needs improvement. The Viennese waltz should have less rise and fall than the slow waltz. Most dancers learning the Viennese Waltz want to put in a lot of Rise and Fall only to find out that it won't work with the faster tempo of the music.
Beautiful princess dresses twirling in unison, smiling and elegant couples dancing in the ballroom of a gilded palace, dancing the Viennese waltz in the arms of a handsome prince charming is the dream of many little girls.
